My Scraps & More Sketch #109 - Hello summer!

I only recently stumbled upon the My Scraps and More blog and saw that they have challenges twice a month where a designer posts a layout sketch and everyone can create a layout based on it and link it up to their blog. Sounds like a whole lot of fun, I thought! Best of all, the My Scraps and More team will select 3 designs each month as their favourites and they also have a random winner that wins a gorgeous prize including paper, thickers and more! How wonderful that would be!

Of course I had no idea how to link up anything ha! I only figured out today that the reason I am so confused as to what to do is that the mobile version of the blog doesn't seem to have the Link Up button/information! Now that I am on my laptop, I will try to link up this blogpost. Wish me luck!

About the sketch...It's so cool! It's in fact right up my valley! I got totally inspired when I saw it! It instantly reminded me of the Heart Burst cut file I bought from The Cut Shoppe. And like I said in my previous post, I just LOVE cut files...So this really was a no brainer!

I've cut out the shape from white textured cardstock and in fact for this layout I've used the negative. I've placed a gorgeous patterned paper behind it and added all sorts of embellishments, frames, flair buttons, phrase stickers etc. I've stitched on some wood veneer words, and also handstitched along the rays with different color embossing floss.

So without further ado, here is my take on the sketch! I really like how it turned out, and I hardly ever say this about anything I make...If you know me, you know I am never satisfied with anything I make! :)

Back to basics...as in NO cut files :)

I love cut files. I do. I could use them with every single layout to be honest. But I thought I'd try something different this time...

I have so many stencils I've never used, one is prettier than the other. A very good friend of mine lives in LA and if my stewardess friend visits her I always order craft supplies. So a while back I ordered about 20 12x12" Crafter's Workshop stencils. But then I bought my Cameo and my stencil projects were put on hold.

So now I decided I'd do a background with some stencil and my favourite Tim Holtz distress inks. When I chose the colors I realized I have this amazing 6x6" paper pad from MME, Indie chic Nutmeg, that I still haven't used...So I decided to hand cut the stencil pattern from various papers and stitch them on. At this point I had no idea what I was going to do with this background...I just wanted to go right ahead and stencil away!

Then I've found some photos that were a bit brownish so I figured they would be a good fit for this background. And finally I could make use of some of the millions of tissue papers I still have left from my pompom making phase! I just layered 3 different colors behind my photos for background.

After that the only thing left to do was adding some embellishments; flair buttons (these are from the awesome Etsy Shop A flair for buttons. Check out the amazing variety they have!), alpha thickers, bradz, some wood veneer, mists/ink drops and journaling.

I hope you like how this layout turned out and get inspired to do some stencilled backgrounds! They are so simple and fun to make!

Should you have any questions, please ask, I'm more than happy to answer. Any suggestions are also welcome since I am new to both scrapbooking and blogging so there surely is room for improvement!

A test post

I started scrapbooking a couple of months ago and I am addicted! I love all things pretty, the smell of paper... My happiest days are the ones when I receive some new scrapbook supplies (wink wink!).

I have never blogged in my life either, so please bear with me here... Hopefully I will manage to overcome my technical limitations too, I will certainly do my best! I will work on my photo taking skills too :).

I actually only decided about 4 hours ago that I will start writing a blog so I don't have process photos of any of my existing layouts, but I will make sure to take some from now on I promise.

You can find a link here to my gallery on scrapbook.com, so you can see some of my work.

I will however add some of my favourites here too. It is very hard to choose, but on purpose I selected the ones I have not totally scraplifted from someone (that's what it's called when I borrow someone's idea right?!). Although there still are some that were completely inspired by my favourite designer, Ashley Horton! As you can tell I am in love with cut files. I bought a lot of them from The Cut Shoppe. Since I had bought my Silhouette Cameo there has not been a day I haven't used it. Just the most amazing gadget I have ever owned!

Please do leave a comment with suggestions on how to make this blog better, more professional or anything else you feel like sharing. I will do my best to take everything into consideration. Thank you so much for your help in advance!
